Lucky me! The two seats next to me on the plane were free. So, slightly less worried about having a DVT in a strange country. Kuala Lumpur Airport is quite new, vast and very confusing. From the gate - where I immediately lost my travelling companions - I walked and walked, through rows of smart and not-so-smart shops, along corridors, up and down staircases, doggedly following the signs for baggage reclaim. Then I hit on a crowd, blocking my way. They were all waiting for a bus. I climbed on the bus, by now convinced I was lost, got off, walked and walked, up some escalators and lo and behold, the passport control. This was easy now! It only took 50 minutes for the bag to arrive, by which time our pre-booked transfer had given up. But we got there in the end, there being the JW Marriott in downtown Kuala Lumpur. Very elegant. Lovely room with an enormous bed.
